The Seminar “Disinformation in Elections: approaches from Brazil and the European Union”, held on November 22, at the Superior Electoral Court, in Brasília, had, among the speakers, the directors of the Instituto Democracia em Xeque Fabiano Garrido and Tatiana Dourado. The event marked the end of the partnership signed between the Court and the European Union delegation in Brazil to develop studies involving Brazilian and European experts. It is expected that a book containing all the studies will be published soon.
The Seminar was opened by the president of the TSE, minister Alexandre de Moraes, and the ambassador of the European Union delegation in Brazil, Marian Schuegraf. In the first panel, the regulatory environment was addressed, focusing on the presentation of the European Union's reinforced code of practice and the regulatory framework for the internet in Brazil.
Next, Fabiano Garrido presented the study on the efforts made by organized civil society to control disinformation in the electoral process. Finally, Tatiana Dourado presented, together with co-author José Moreno (Iscte, Portugal) a mapping of scientific research institutes and networks focused on disinformation studies.
