On November 27th and 28th, the international event “Disinfo and Elections in the Global Majority” took place at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. The meeting was organized by the Director of Methodology and Professor at PUC-Rio, Marcelo Alves, and the professor at the University of Massachusetts, Jonathan Ong. The activities promoted the exchange of learning between strategies to combat disinformation by more than 50 experts from Brazil, the Philippines, the United States, Moldova, South Africa, Indonesia and India, building a cooperation network focused on the global majority. During the two days, there were exhibition tables on the political-electoral and informational contexts of countries that will have elections in 2024 and 10 thematic working groups to share methodologies, tools, projects and initiatives from different sectors.
The entire board of directors of Instituto Democracia em Xeque was present at the event, which was an opportunity to showcase projects, strengthen collaborations and coordinate initiatives with universities, research centers, journalists and civil society.
