DX's Public Position on STF Petition 12/100/DF
Written February 8, 2024

The very serious and carefully documented facts in decision 12/100/DF, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), today (08.02.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX), bring to light a wealth of evidence that points to a complex coup plot woven within of Brazilian institutions over recent years.

This information, obtained through police investigation, is in line with posts and statements published on social media and in media outlets present at the reconstruction. of the coup timeline published by the Instituto Democracia em Xeque (DX) on the one-year anniversary of January 8, 2023.

It is therefore evident, thanks to the information made available by the judicial decision of the Minister of the STF, Alexandre de Moraes, that the three strategies that guided the coup narratives on social networks in recent years also resulted in the actions of those who, until now, have been hidden , planned, financed and led the coup actions that led to the invasion of Praça dos Três Poderes.

These strategies, it is worth highlighting, are the three central axes of monitoring and analyzing the debate on social networks that have guided DX's action since its inception, in February 2021, based on the hypothesis of the risk of reproduction in Brazil of events similar to those that occurred on January 6 of that year in the USA, during the invasion of the Capitol, namely:

1) Undermining confidence in the electoral system: disinformation campaigns using misleading content and fraudulent news (fake news), among other facts known to be untrue and seriously out of context, were disseminated in a coordinated and systematic way on social networks to raise suspicion of the voting system, by questioning the ballot box electronics, the source code and the process of counting and consolidating votes;

2) Disqualify the match referee: questions about the impartiality of the “arbiter” of the process, with attacks on the Electoral Court as a whole, as well as its Ministers, mainly the then president of the TSE, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, and other Ministers of the Superior Courts of Justice, the main targets of the speeches hateful and violent speeches uttered by the coup leaders of Bolsonarism.

3) Encourage attacks on the Three Powers: The permanent stimulus to social upheaval and violent popular uprising against democratic institutions that culminated in the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers, emulating tactics seen in the United States Capitol, with the aim of leading the country into chaos, encouraging the action of Armed Forces and their consequent adherence to the coup agenda.

In this sense, DX congratulates compliance with the law and the speed of investigations in the identification and indictment of all those possibly involved, hoping that, whenever due legal process, the right to full defense and the presumption of innocence are respected, they are equally rigorous and speed up the respective accountability processes.

The Democracy in Xeque Institute will continue to be available to civil society, Democratic Institutions and Justice, legitimized by our Federal Constitution, supporting and helping to strengthen the Democratic Rule of Law through initiatives to combat disinformation, hate speech and violent political extremism.

In defense of the democratic memory in our country and, consequently, for the imposition of truth, justice, reparation and the non-repetition of terrible attacks on our democracy.

Best Regards,

Democracia em Xeque Institute
