Conectas, Sou da Paz and Instituto Vladimir Herzog want candidates to discuss human rights and reducing inequalities

The organizations Conectas Human Rights, Tide Setubal Foundation, Brazilian Public Security Forum, Sou da Paz, Vladimir Herzog Institute, among others, they released a letter in which they ask Ricardo Nunes (MDB) and Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), who are competing for the leadership of the São Paulo City Hall in the second round, to “put the improvement of democracy and civilizing processes back at the center of the debate.
In the letter, they state that the city must prioritize the defense of human rights and the reduction of socioeconomic inequalities, face the effects of climate change, combat corruption and provide transparency in public management.
They also call for attention to “public space as an expression of citizenship” (efficient maintenance, improvement of sidewalks, recovery of degraded areas), access to information, job creation and sustainable urban mobility.
In the area of ​​security, they say that the next mayor should guide the Metropolitan Civil Guard “so that its actions are based on protection and proximity to the community.” In relation to health and education, he should expand access to services, with a focus on primary care and mental health, and improve school infrastructure, expanding the number of daycare places.
