On February 02, 2025, Elon Musk posted on his X profile that USAID was a criminal organization, following a series of posts by Mike Benz, Trump's former secretary, with allegations about the agency. The head of the Department of Government Efficiency was endorsed by Donald Trump, who stated that USAID was "run by radical lunatics." From then on, directors and employees were removed and the US president declared that he would discontinue the agency's activities. The situation had repercussions around the world, with coverage by the press and a large volume of posts on social media. In Brazil, the alleged allegations about the agency's political activities were led mainly by far-right politicians. The most widely publicized post on the subject was by Jair Bolsonaro, which reached more than 500 thousand interactions on Instagram. In addition to the former president, the issue gained repercussion, mainly, from the accounts of parliamentarians such as Eduardo Bolsonaro, Bia Kicis and Carla Zambelli, from far-right profiles such as Oi Luiz TV, Kim Paim, Auri Verde Brasil and Ancapsu, and from reframe media outlets such as Gazeta do Povo and Revista Oeste.
